Food Forever at Google Nov 2019

We were delighted to take part in this event which was put on by the Crop Trust and Kew Gardens.

Chefs including Brett Graham of the Ledbury, Asma Khan, Justin Horne, Dennis Prescott and many more all presented dishes with little known varieties of ingredients (Beremeal, blue corn, Delica Pumpkin, the British Lop pig, Kalette etc.) that, without work to preserve them, could die out.

The Crop Trust is an NGO which works to preserve crop diversity in order to protect global food security (which is important if we like eating – just look at what is happening to the bananas that we eat every day Bananageddon Film ).

Kew Gardens is also doing increasing work in this area with its mission to conserve the world’s plant species which we use for food and medicine. I am delighted to say that the Delica Pumpkin tostada we prepared on blue corn was the first dish to sell out of the evening!

More about the event here.

It was a fascinating, delicious and vaguely terrifying evening where we ate and heard about the threats to our global food production of modern monoculture and the importance of spreading the word that each and every one of us has a part to play in asking for, seeking out and eating interesting varieties of food, in order to preserve them.
